The Gunnison Arts Center hosts a variety of theater productions, including locally written shows like SonofaGunn, Reader's Theatre plays, solo-directed performances, youth theatre, traveling shows, community collaborations and more. The Gunnison Arts Center and Firebird Theatre are proud to present Theatre from the Machine, an evening of short plays and sketches mostly written by artificial intelligence and performed in staged reading format by human actors. This hour-long night at the theatre is intended to examine the current state of AI in the arts and to reinforce the irreplaceability of human expression. Will you be able to guess which of these plays is human-made?

Dracula + Spider

Friday and Saturday, October 24th + 25th

The Up Valley, Down Valley Players present Michael Callihan's readers theatre adaptation of Orson Welles's 1938 Mercury Theater radio production of Dracula — the chilling tale of a mad Transylvanian Count turned blood-sucking fiend in search of a bride. If you have a weak heart, you may want to cover your eyes during certain scenes! Stay after intermission for Spider — a creepy-crawly reminder that the average person swallows eight spiders a year while sleeping... and far more might just be walking across your face, even human sized ones!

The Gunnison Arts Center is excited to welcome Subject to Change, Crested Butte Mountain Theatre’s in-house improv team. Performing both short- and long-form styles, they bring comedy and community together in an engaging, interactive style that promises belly laughs — and might even inspire you to jump on stage with them! This marks a new collaboration between the GAC and Crested Butte Mountain Theatre.
