Director of Development:

Gunnison Arts Center’s Director of Development is a full-time strategic leadership position that ensures the evolution of the GAC’s financial resources. The DD works to build a portfolio of successful grant awards, builds and maintains donor relationships, and secures business sponsorships. Cultivating and collaborating with the GAC’s Board of Directors the DD advances GAC financial goals through forecasting future income, setting fundraising goals and objectives, and planning and executing fundraising strategies. 


  • Cultivates and maintains donor relationships
    • Identify potential new donors and build relationships
    • Collaborate with Board members to make potential donor connections
    • Develop and implement donor stewardship programs
    • Track donor activity
  • Manages and executes grants calendar
    • Researches grant opportunities
    • Discovers new and creative grant opportunities
    • Tracks schedule of grant application and report due date
    • Complies grant application packages with attachments and financials
    • Fulfills requirements of grant contracts
  • Develops and implements giving programs
    • Execute and evaluate year-end giving mailing
    • Execute and evaluate directors club and lifetime member giving mailing
    • Develop and implement new giving programs
    • Track giving program results
    • Manage thank you letter creation and mailing
  • Financial and database management 
    • Manage donor database
    • Utilize donor database information
  • Program Sponsorships
    • Supports the GAC budgeted revenue by obtaining program sponsors
    • Designs program sponsorship opportunities
    • Builds relationships with business partners
    • Executes sponsorship appeals, agreements, and thank yous 
  • Financial Review and Budget Building
    • Review financial reports with Director of Operations and Finance Committee monthly
    • Provide insight into cash flow and/or expense trends or anomalies
    • Take action in daily operations when applicable to financials
    • Coordinate with Director of Operations and staff to build yearly and quarterly budget
  • Legal obligations and registrations
    • Charitable Solicitation Registration
    • Enterprise Zone Contribution Project
  • Board of Directors
    • Collaborates with the Director of Operations to support and grow the GAC Board of Directors
    • In coordination with the Director of Operations and Board President, schedules and plans monthly and quarterly Board meetings
  • Organize Fundraising Events with Board
    • In coordination with the Director of Operations and Fundraising Events Board, designs, advertises and executes fundraising events
    • Evaluates fundraising events with the team


  • Create a welcoming inclusive community vibe in the building, at GAC programs, and through GAC marketing
  • Collaborative team member of the GAC staff team
  • Displays strong leadership and sets standards for staff conduct  
  • Reports to Board President
  • Maintain a schedule and presence at the GAC

  • Thorough, respectful, and professional communication with other GAC staff members, artists, visitors, and community members

  • Manage own time and schedule to accomplish duties within 40 hours per week

Director of Development Skills and Qualifications

  • Management or leadership experience preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
  • Organizational, time-management and problem-solving skills needed
  • Ability to lead and direct others
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Knowledge of grant writing
  • Some knowledge of different CMS platforms
  • Event planning capabilities


  • Yearly salary of $45,000-$52,000 DOE paid in installments every two weeks throughout the year
  • 80 hours (10 days) of paid time off after 6 months of employment, 120 hours (15 days) after 3 years of employment
  • 64 hours of paid sick time after 90 days of employment
  • GAC class/event credit of $75 per schedule
