The 4th Annual Gunnison Valley Poetry Festival will take place at the Gunnison Arts Center from Friday, October 12 through Sunday, October 14. The conference, which is jointly sponsored with the Graduate Program in Creative Writing & The Headwaters Conference Masters in Environmental Management at Western Colorado University, features many of the strongest poets and writers from around the western slope and beyond. The festival will include nightly readings, lectures, seminars and panel discussions. Join us for what promises to be one of the liveliest literary events in the region this year.

The mission of the Gunnison Valley Poetry Festival and the Reading Series is to connect local audiences with strong local and regional creative writers in all genres, through readings, workshops, lectures, discussions and more. In collaboration with the Gunnison Arts Center and other local groups, the Festival holds an annual festival and several readings throughout the year. Previous local readers and presenters have included Kelsey Bennett, Maryo Ewell, Sandy Fails, Rosalyn Garvey, Len Germinara, Cara Guerrieri, Karen Hausdoerffer, William Hausdoerffer, Elizabyth Hiscox, Enid Holden, Alissa Johnson, Douglas Jones, Corrie Knapp, John Nelson, Polly Oberossler, Kym O’Connell-Todd, Arvin Ram, Shelley Read, Mark Reaman, David J. Rothman, Chris Rourke, Will Shoemaker, George Sibley, Jeff Taylor, Mark Todd, Toni Todd, Alan Wartes, Dave White, along with student writers at Western who have published in Pathfinder and who perform in WordHorde, Western’s spoken word poetry troupe. Visiting writers have included Bruce Berger, Kiersten Bridger, Rhonda Claridge, JD Frey, TJ Gerlach, Art Goodtimes, Jennifer Hancock, Kyle Harvey, Luis Lopez, John Nizalowski, Danny Rosen, Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer, and Wendy Videlock.
