Dance Classes and Events

From ballet to tap; hip hop to aerial, movers and shakers of all ages and skill levels will find something they enjoy at the Gunnison Arts Center School of Dance! All classes are held in the GAC Dance Studio at 102 S. Main St. Second Floor.

All classes have a minimum enrollment of 4 students unless otherwise noted. If the minimum is not met the decision to cancel a class will be made. Some classes have limited enrollment. Students are considered registered only after full payment for the class has been received. GAC active members will receive a 15% discount on class tuition. Pre-registering for a class helps ensure that the course will run.

Scholarships are available for all dance classes, both adult and youth. Visit the Education Tab and scholarships page for more information and how to apply.

Payment Plans:
The GAC offers the option of creating a payment plan to pay for classes throughout the duration of the semester. Please contact Alysa at the GAC to set up a payment plan that works for both your needs and the GAC’s needs. Classes must be paid for in full before the last day of classes.

Cancellation and Refund Policy:
The Gunnison Arts Center will issue a full refund for the price of class or workshop registration, minus a $5 administration fee, until the class has begun and will only issue Gunnison Arts Center credit after the class has begun.

Rules of the Studio:
There are no street shoes allowed in the studio, only dance shoes that have never been street worn. No food, gum or drinks in the studio (water is okay in a secure container). Please leave jackets, dance bags, shoes/boots, etc. in the bathrooms; there are cubbies in the bathrooms for personal use. The GAC is not responsible for lost/stolen items.

Dress and Shoe Attire:
No street shoes allowed in the Dance Studio. Shoes and dance attire is up to the class’s instructor. Student should come prepared with dance shoes. and the GAC does not have dance shoes or dance clothing for sale.

Toddler Art n’ Dance ~ (Ages 2 – 3 w/ caregiver)
Fridays, 9:00 – 9:45 am. June 15 – August 10.

Preschool Art n’ Dance ~ (Ages 4 – 6)
Fridays, 10:00 – 10:45 am. June 15 – August 10.

Discover, move and create in these fun Friday morning classes for your toddler and you! One week will be a dance class and the next will be an art class. Kids will have the opportunity to experience creative lessons in a different art form each week. Art classes will be held on the outdoor courtyard (weather permitting) and dance classes will be held in the GAC Dance Studio. Parents are encouraged to join and participate. Purchase a full summer punch card or smaller punch cards. Classes begin with Art on June 15.

Youth Intro to Aerial Workshop ~ (Ages 7 – 15)
Saturday, August 18. 9:00 – 10:15 am.

Students will go through beginner moves, learn how to get in and out of the equipment and also work on sequencing tricks together on the Lyra and Sling. No experience needed for this workshop. Wear tight clothing that covers knees and elbows. GAC Dance Studio. Min 4, 10 max students. Pre-registration required.

Adult Modern Dance Workshop
Saturday, August 4. 10:30 am – 12:30 pm.

Explore the world of modern dance in this one-day workshop. We’ll begin with warm-ups sequenced with combinations to complete an upbeat dance by the end of the class. Min 4 students to run workshop. Pre-registration required. GAC Dance Studio. Ages 16+.
Instructor: Alysa VandenHeuvel. $20/student.

Back to Ballet
Wednesdays, 8:00 – 9:00 am. August 8 – September 12.

Return to the graceful movements of ballet with professional ballet dancer Viki Psihoyos. This hour-long class introduces and builds on simple barre and center exercises. Develop strength, flexibility and poise, all to fun music. Regardless of previous experience, this is a great class for all. Ages 18+. GAC Dance Studio.

$60/full class or $12/drop-in. (Must have min of 4 student commitment to offer drop-in’s.)

Aerial Mixed Apparatus Workshop
Saturday, August 18. 10:30 – 12:30 pm.

Jump into the air in this one day aerial workshop where student will get a chance to explore two aerial apparatuses; the lyra hoop and fabric sling. Work on beginner conditioning and progress to sequencing tricks at the end of this two hour class. No experience needed for this workshop. Wear tight clothing that covers knees and elbows. Salsa Rueda & Rum
Saturday, August 11. 7:00 – 9:30 pm.

Enjoy a night under the GAC Courtyard lights in this fun and easy Dance AND Series event. Salsa Rueda is similar to a square dance in which dancers consistently change partners, learn and execute basic salsa moves in a circular formation, while listening to a caller. This is a no pressure way to get exposed to basic salsa rhythms. Enjoy sipping on refreshing rum inspired cocktails and Latin style apps. GAC Outdoor Courtyard.
Instructor/Caller: Linny Ramundo. $20/person includes two drinks, light apps and instruction.

Weekly Adult Classes

Lunchtime Yoga with Leia
June & July: Thursdays, 12:30 – 1:15 pm. On-going every week.
(Tuesdays, 12:30 – 1:15 pm will be held in Legion Park, outdoors.)

Lunchtime Yoga with Leia Morrison in the GAC dance studio $10 per person. All levels are welcome to this 45 min. long vinyasa-style yoga class. Through intention, breath and movement of both energy and physicality (with just the right amount of joy & suffering) we will work on building a sustainable inner landscape through the use of our physical bodies. Although the class will begin with flow we will work towards a place of stillness, integration and marination within the asana. Our goal, is to find balance between stira (steadiness/effort) and sukha (ease/bliss) on the mat so that we re-enter into the world embodied with these qualities and equipped for just about anything life throws at us. Zumba with Barron Farnell!
Mondays, 1:30 – 2:15 pm. On-going every week.

Sweat with intention in this upbeat Zumba dance work-out class. Barron Farnell brings his high energy and love for music and dance for a complete core workout. Zumba is for all levels. $10 per person. Pay at the door.
