Dance Classes and Events

From ballet to tap; hip hop to aerial, movers and shakers of all ages and skill levels will find something they enjoy at the Gunnison Arts Center School of Dance! All classes are held in the GAC Dance Studio at 102 S. Main St. Second Floor.


Enrollment:
All classes have a minimum enrollment of 4 students unless otherwise noted. If the minimum is not met the decision to cancel a class will be made. Some classes have limited enrollment. Students are considered registered only after full payment for the class has been received. GAC active members will receive a 15% discount on class tuition. Pre-registering for a class helps ensure that the course will run.

Scholarships:
Scholarships are available for all dance classes, both adult and youth. Visit the Education Tab and scholarships page for more information and how to apply.

Payment Plans:
The GAC offers the option of creating a payment plan to pay for classes throughout the duration of the semester. Please contact Alysa at the GAC to set up a payment plan that works for both your needs and the GAC’s needs. Classes must be paid for in full before the last day of classes.

Cancellation and Refund Policy:
The Gunnison Arts Center will issue a full refund for the price of class or workshop registration, minus a $5 administration fee, until the class has begun and will only issue Gunnison Arts Center credit after the class has begun.

Rules of the Studio:
There are no street shoes allowed in the studio, only dance shoes that have never been street worn. No food, gum or drinks in the studio (water is okay in a secure container). Please leave jackets, dance bags, shoes/boots, etc. in the bathrooms; there are cubbies in the bathrooms for personal use. The GAC is not responsible for lost/stolen items.

Dress and Shoe Attire:
No street shoes allowed in the Dance Studio. Shoes and dance attire is up to the class’s instructor. Student should come prepared with dance shoes. and the GAC does not have dance shoes or dance clothing for sale.

Dance AND Series Events

Western Swing & Whiskey
Friday, October 20. 7:00 – 9:30 pm.

Explore one of Colorado’s hottest dance styles in this exciting Dance AND Series event. Enjoy good company while learning country swing two-step basics and sipping on a selection of refreshing whiskey cocktails. No dance experience necessary. Couples and individuals welcome, includes two drink coupons each and southern style apps. GAC Outdoor Courtyard. Instructors: Tyler Lull and Victoria Goedjen. $20/individual, $37/couple.








Youth/Teen Dance


Mickies & Minnies Dance ~ (Ages 2-3 w/ caregiver)
Fridays, 10:00 am – 10:45 am.
Session 1: September 15 – October 13.
Session 2: November 3 – December 8.

Get your little guy or gal moving in the right direction in this fun, early childhood dance class. Kids will be exposed to rhythm, tempo, direction and ranges of movement as well as free dancing! Parents are welcome to stay and even join in. Instructor: TBA. $45/session.



Ballet/Tap Combo ~ (Ages 4-6)
Mondays, 4:15 – 5:15 pm. September 11 – December 4. (No class 10/9, 11/20.)

This combo dance class will introduce your little dancers to basic ballet vocabulary and techniques for a half hour and fun tapping repetition and combos the last half hour.
Instructor: Alexandria Rodriguez. $90/student, $76.50/members.

This combo dance class will introduce your little dancers to basic ballet vocabulary and techniques for a half hour and fun tapping repetition and combos the last half hour.

Shorty Hip Hop ~ (Ages 5-9)
Mondays, 5:15 – 6:15 pm. September 11 – December 4. (No class 10/9, 11/20.)

Students will learn various beginning hip hop dance moves in a fun filled encouraging group environment while building self-confidence! Basics of all styles of hip hop will be incorporated such as street hip hop, break-dancing, poppin’ and lockin’. Open to all levels of dancers!
Instructor: Alexandria Rodriguez. $90/student, $76.50/members.



Steezy Hip Hop ~ (Ages 10-13)
Wednesdays, 6:15 – 7:15 pm. September 13 – December 6.

Students will learn various beginning hip hop dance moves in a fun filled encouraging group environment while building self-confidence! Basics of all styles of hip hop will be incorporated such as street hip hop, break-dancing, poppin’ and lockin’. All levels of dancers can join!

Teen Dance: Contemporary & Hip Hop
Mondays, 6:15 – 7:15 pm.
Contemporary: September 11 – October 16.
Hip Hop: October 30 – December 11.

Do you love to dance?! Grab your friends and head to dance class at the GAC this semester. Choose from contemporary or hip hop or take both six week classes. No dance experience necessary, just a love for music and movement. This is a relaxed and fun environment where you will learn choreography and full dances. Instructor: Alexandria Rodriguez. $10/student. (Gunnison Hangouts Teen Program.)


Adult Dance



Zumba
Mondays, 5:45 – 6:30 pm.
June 5 – August 28. No class 7/3.

Each class is designed to be a total body workout, combining all elements of dance fitness, through fun world rhythms and dances. GAC Dance Studio. Instructor: Barron Farnell.
Punch cards available: $10/drop-in, $35/5 classes, $60/full 12 class punch card.





Line Dance
Wednesdays, 7:30 – 8:30 pm. September 6 – October 4.

Have fun in this five week line dance class with Lake City teacher/dancer Linny Ramundo. Listen to upbeat country music and learn repetitive line dances with your friends in the GAC Dance Studio. The memorization of classes will also help with your brain memory! No dance experience necessary. Wear cowboy boots or shoes that are clean (no mud or rocks).
Instructor: Linny Ramundo. $55/student, $46.75/members.






Adult Tap I – Beginning/Intermediate
Tuesdays, 7:30 – 8:30 pm. September 12 – October 3.

Learn the essentials and basics of tap dancing while exploring combinations and routines. Open to beginners and intermediate levels where beginners will be given extra support and intermediate dancers will be given challenging combos. Students must have their own tap shoes in this short 4 week class.
Instructor: Karen Immerso. $40/student, $34/members.






Move the Butte Dance Class ~ (18+)
Thursdays, 7:30 – 8:30 pm. November 30 – February 15.

Learn a dance and get to perform in the Crested Butte Move the Butte Dance show in February 2018!
Instructor: Alexandria Rodriguez.
$85/student includes costumes, studio rental and Move the Butte show fee.
