Dance Classes and Events

From ballet to tap; hip hop to aerial, movers and shakers of all ages and skill levels will find something they enjoy at the Gunnison Arts Center School of Dance! All classes are held in the GAC Dance Studio at 102 S. Main St. Second Floor.


Enrollment:
All classes have a minimum enrollment of 4 students unless otherwise noted. If the minimum is not met the decision to cancel a class will be made. Some classes have limited enrollment. Students are considered registered only after full payment for the class has been received. GAC active members will receive a 15% discount on class tuition. Pre-registering for a class helps ensure that the course will run.

Scholarships:
Scholarships are available for all dance classes, both adult and youth. Visit the Education Tab and scholarships page for more information and how to apply.

Payment Plans:
The GAC offers the option of creating a payment plan to pay for classes throughout the duration of the semester. Please contact Alysa at the GAC to set up a payment plan that works for both your needs and the GAC’s needs. Classes must be paid for in full before the last day of classes.

Cancellation and Refund Policy:
The Gunnison Arts Center will issue a full refund for the price of class or workshop registration, minus a $5 administration fee, until the class has begun and will only issue Gunnison Arts Center credit after the class has begun.

Rules of the Studio:
There are no street shoes allowed in the studio, only dance shoes that have never been street worn. No food, gum or drinks in the studio (water is okay in a secure container). Please leave jackets, dance bags, shoes/boots, etc. in the bathrooms; there are cubbies in the bathrooms for personal use. The GAC is not responsible for lost/stolen items.

Dress and Shoe Attire:
No street shoes allowed in the Dance Studio. Shoes and dance attire is up to the class’s instructor. Student should come prepared with dance shoes. and the GAC does not have dance shoes or dance clothing for sale.

Buti Yoga
Wednesdays, 5:15 – 6:15 pm. Beginning December 6th!

Lunchtime Yoga with Leia!
Tuesdays, 12:00 – 1:00 pm. On-going every week.

Lunchtime Yoga with Leia Morrison Tuesdays 12-1pm in the GAC dance studio $10 per person. All levels are welcome to this hour long vinyasa-style yoga class. Through intention, breath and movement of both energy and physicality (with just the right amount of joy & suffering) we will work on building a sustainable inner landscape through the use of our physical bodies. Although the class will begin with flow we will work towards a place of stillness, integration and marination within the asana. Our goal, is to find balance between stira (steadiness/effort) and sukha (ease/bliss) on the mat so that we re-enter into the world embodied with these qualities and equipped for just about anything life throws at us. Western Swing & Whiskey
Friday, January 19th. 7:00 – 9:30 pm.

Explore one of Colorado’s hottest dance styles in this exciting Dance AND Series event. Enjoy good company while learning country swing two-step basics and sipping on a selection of refreshing whiskey cocktails. Couples and individuals welcome. No dance experience necessary.
Instructors: Tyler Lull and Victoria Goedjen.
$20/individual, $37/couple includes two drinks, light apps and instruction.







Rum & Rhythms of Latin America
Friday, February 16th. 7:00 – 9:30 pm.

Explore the lively and upbeat dance styles of Latin America in this dance AND Series Event. Learn the basics steps of Merengue, Salsa, and Bachata. Sip on a selection of rum inspired cocktail drinks and enjoy Latin inspired apps while learning these dance styles. No dance experience necessary! Couples and individuals welcome!
Instructors: Fabrianna & Frank Ayala.
$20/individual, $37/couple includes two drinks, light apps and instruction.







East Coast Swing & Cocktails
Saturday, March 17th. 7:00 – 9:30 pm.

Swing into spring and make new friends as we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in this new Dance Event! East Coast Swing is a fun upbeat dance often done to Big Band music and known for its bounce, rock step. Our new instructor will lead the basics as we change partners throughout the night. No dance experience necessary! Couples and individuals welcome!

Mickies & Minnies Dance ~ (Ages 2-4 w/ caregiver)
Fridays, 10:00 am – 10:45 am.
Winter Session 1: January 26 – March 9.
Spring Session 2: March 30 – May 11.

Get your little guy or gal moving in the right direction in this fun, early childhood dance class. Kids will be exposed to rhythm, tempo, direction and ranges of movement as well as free dancing! Parents are welcome to stay and even join in. Instructor: Victoria Goedjen. $75/session, $63.75/member.



Ballet/Tap Combo ~ (Ages 4-6)
Mondays, 4:15 – 5:15 pm.
Winter Session 1: January 22 – March 5.
Spring Session 2: March 26 – May 7.

This combo dance class will introduce your little dancers to basic ballet vocabulary and techniques for a half hour and fun tapping repetition and combos the last half hour.
Instructor: Alexandria Rodriguez. $80/session, $68/members.

Students will learn various beginning hip hop dance moves in a fun filled encouraging group environment while building self-confidence! Basics of all styles of hip hop will be incorporated such as street hip hop, break-dancing, poppin’ and lockin’. Open to all levels of dancers!

Steezy Hip Hop ~ (Ages 9-12)
Wednesdays, 6:15 – 7:15 pm.
Winter Session 1: January 24 – March 7.
Spring Session 2: March 28 – May 9.

Students will learn various beginning hip hop dance moves in a fun filled encouraging group environment while building self-confidence! Basics of all styles of hip hop will be incorporated such as street hip hop, break-dancing, poppin’ and lockin’. All levels of dancers can join!

Teen Dance: Contemporary & Hip Hop
Mondays, 6:30 – 7:30 pm.
March 26 – May 7.

Do you love to dance?! Grab your friends and head to the dance studio at the GAC this semester. Dancers will learn a combination of Contemporary dance and Hip Hop dance throughout this class. No dance experience necessary, just a love for music and movement. This is a relaxed and fun environment where you will learn choreography and full dances and even get to perform in the Dance Showcase in May! Instructor: Alexandria Rodriguez. $10/student. Adult Aerial Mixed Apparatus ~ (Ages 16 – Adult)
Mondays, 6:30 – 7:30 pm. January 22 – February 12.

In this class students will gain an understanding of body conditioning and how to apply it to aerial dance. Students will go through beginner moves and also work on sequencing them on the Lyra and Sling. No previous experience or strength required. You will gain the strength as you learn! Instructor: Alexandria Rodriguez. $45/student, $38.25/members.









Country Swing
Mondays, 7:30 – 8:30 pm. January 22 – February 12.

Come join us in this fun Monday night dance class to learn one of Colorado’s hottest dance styles! This country swing course is for those who have never tried but always wanted to learn, or for those who have some basic steps but would like to improve their technique and acquire new skills. Learn the basic western two-step, turns and floor moves, with the possibility of learning introductory tricks as we progress through the semester. Individuals and couples are welcome. Students must supply clean, ‘never been street worn’ shoes or dance shoes. Instructors: Tyler Lull & Victoria Goedjen. $45/individual, $38.25/member. $85/couples, $72.25/members.






Adult Tap
Wednesdays, 7:30 – 8:30 pm. January 24 – February 28.

Learn the essentials and basics of tap dancing while exploring combinations and routines. Open to higher level beginners and intermediate levels where beginners will be given extra support and intermediate dancers will be given challenging combos. Students must have their own tap shoes. Instructor: Karen Immerso. $70/student, $59.50/member.










Move the Butte Dance Class ~ (18+) ~ Contemporary
Thursdays, 7:30 – 8:30 pm. November 30 – February 15.

Learn a dance and get to perform in the Crested Butte Move the Butte Dance show in February 2018!
Instructor: Alexandria Rodriguez. $85/student includes costumes, studio rental and Move the Butte show fee.
