Clay Center
The
Gunnison Arts Center is proud of its on-site Clay Center featuring seven
potter wheels and two kilns for a wide variety of ceramic arts. Regular
semester classes with six to 12 sessions each include such offerings as
wheel throwing, hand building, independent study, children and youth clay
samplers and ceramics for adults 50 and better. In addition to regular
classes, the Clay Center also sponsors ceramic workshops and Glaze Your
Own Pottery events.
School of Dance
The
Gunnison Arts Center is home to its own 1,000-square-foot state-of-the-art
dance studio featuring a mirrored wall, dance barres and sprung floor.
Numerous dance classes for all age and experience levels are held daily
in the studio, including classes in ballet, tap, jazz, ballroom, clogging,
hip hop, modern, general movement and country partner and country line
dancing. Most classes are offered on a semester basis with 6 to 10 sessions
each semester and students can register according to their age and experience
level. Teens and adults may also “drop in” for a single session
at a fee of just $10.00 per session. Students also have an opportunity
to perform during the annual Dance Showcase, Ballet Recital and Tap Show.
In addition, the GAC School of Dance often sponsors special dance workshops
and touring dance troupes.
Culinary Arts Classes
The GAC offers culinary arts classes almost every semester, which are
mainly offered off-site at various locations throughout the Gunnison community.
Bread, bagel and cake decorating classes are examples of some of the culinary
arts education classes offered through the Gunnison Arts Center.
Visual Arts Classes
The Gunnison Arts Center provides youth and adults a variety of classes
to choose from in the visual arts. Adult oil painting, after-school art
classes for kids and weekend workshops of many different media for youth
and adults are offered each semester. There is always a new class to choose
from as well as the continuing favorites. The GAC also brings in visiting
artists from around the country to share their techniques with all levels
of art student in the Gunnison Valley.
Theatre/Performing Arts Classes
The youth theatre class is very popular at the Gunnison Arts Center. The
students enjoy learning the ins and outs of the theatre, as well as performing
a small show at the end of each semester. Improvisational theatre and
public speaking are performing arts classes that are offered for adults.
Literary Arts Classes
The literary arts classes available at the Gunnison Arts Center are enjoyed
by adult and youth students alike. There are adult writing workshops from
local and visiting authors and continuing facilitating writing classes
as well. Youth enjoy classes on writing poems, short stories and campfire
tales during the Summer Youth Arts Institute, an arts program offered
by the GAC each summer in July.
Fiber Arts Classes
The Gunnison Arts Center promotes the fiber arts through classes in quilting
for youth and adults. The quilting community in Gunnison is instrumental
in providing classes to spread the art of quilting to new and returning
quilters of all ages.
